My First Mac Expands Help to New Mac Users with MFM Forums

The staff at My First Mac is proud to roll out the next phase in helping new Mac users find community help and support. We hope you take advantage of 3 new forum areas here at MFM: Discussions, Questions and Suggestions.

This is an excellent way for you to share your ideas and get help with the problems you face in your experience with your Mac. It is in the forums that you can address other readers and the MFM contributors directly, creating a conversation that illuminates Mac concepts and solves issues that face most of us.

We have organized the topics into 3 broad groupings: Discussions, Ask a Question, and My First Mac. Each of these have sub groups to help you find what you are interested in.

Discussions is for news, tips and ideas. These are the types of topics that may not have a single answer. It is also here where we are moving the discussions about MFM articles. Previously, we used comments on the same page as the article. Now there will be a link at the end of each article to the forum topic.

Ask a Question is an excellent way for readers with questions to get answers fast and directly from experienced MFM readers and Contributors. First take a look through questions people have already asked, and if you don't see yours, start a new topic.

Tip: Describe your problem in the topic title so people can see at a glance if they can help you. Also, provide enough detail with what Mac and version of OS X you have so people trying to help don't have to ask too many follow up questions.

My First Mac is the area to make suggestions about the website and how it might better address your needs and wants. We need to hear from you so MFM evolves in a way that really engages and serves you.

For those of you new to forums, the idea here is that someone, anyone, even you can post a topic of discussion, or a question that needs an answer, and other readers interested in that topic will join in and help further the discussion. It happens when you find the right topic category and hit, "New Topic". You can also just browse the topics and see which one interest you, then you hit, "Post Reply".

Anyone can browse the topics and read what others have written, but to write something yourself, you need to be registered. To do this, just click Register at the top of the white area or under MFM Forums Utility in the lower right.

Once you are registered as an MFM member, you can add as much detail to your profile as you like and fine tune how you want to use the forums by exploring Your Control Panel. This will give you options like adding a signature to your posts, an avatar and a photo. There are a lot of controls available to you, so take a good look around the Control Panel.

Tip: you can avoid having to re-enter your login in data by checking "Auto-login on future visits" when you log in.

Another Tip: There should be an orange dot next to topics and categories that have new posts since you last viewed. Also, to see all the new posts at once, you can click, "View New Posts" at the top of the forum list.

I'm sure there are even more details to explore. If you've found a favorite or have other tips, share them with us in the article comments here.
